MySpace is getting into the music business in a big way.
The social networking heavyweight announced Thursday that it has deals with Sony/BMG, Universal and Warner music labels to transform its current music offerings into a full-fledged jukebox of streaming and downloadable music.
As the new features are rolled out in the coming months, MySpace Music will evolve into "what we think is going to be a transformative music experience for the user," says MySpace cofounder Chris DeWolfe. And the improved MySpace Music service will be built upon "a business model that is going to be fantastic for the music companies and help them replace some of the revenue lost for decreasing music sales."
The top social networking site, MySpace has 110 million users and 30 million of those use the music features. Currently, many musicians and bands such as the Foo Fighters and Wilco have songs that can be listened to on their MySpace pages.
Under the new agreement, De Wolfe says that labels plan to offer artists' entire catalogs for free listening and for-pay downloads. "We are considering a subscription model as well if it makes sense," he says.
MySpace did not announce a pricing scheme, but chief operating officer Amit Kapur said that "it's going to be very competitive and in the formats that they want."
He went on to say that he expects many downloads to be available without digital rights management and "they can use them on any devices in a portable manner."
In an earlier interview, DeWolfe did not announce a pricing scheme nor would he say whether downloads would be MP3s or another format, or whether they would contain digital rights management. "Not all the music companies have embraced full non-DRM downloads," he said. "I personally think that is where the market is going but that will be a decision all the music companies will have to make."
Currently, Apple's iTunes store dominates online music sales, with other services from Amazon.com, Wal-Mart, and sites such as eMusic and SpiralFrog also growing.
DeWolfe says that MySpace's goal is to create a joint venture that includes all the major music companies. "We are certainly talking to everyone out there and we want to do business with everyone," he said.
The fourth major music company, EMI, currently sells music on iTunes, but was unavailable for comment on the MySpace Music announcement.
MySpace Music will be about more than just channeling music, DeWolfe says. The service plans to offer one-stop shopping for fans. "When you're listening (to an artist), you may want to also check out the concert schedules and buy a ticket. We have the ability to sell tickets," he says.
"And before you go to concert maybe you want to buy a cool T-shirt and you'll have the opportunity to buy that as well as maybe even a ring tone and video.? Users will be able to use new new music discovery and recommendation tools and pass their findings along.
"You can create a playlist with all your favorite songs you've ever heard in your entire life and put those on your profile and share with it with friends and they can listen absolutely free via streaming," DeWolfe says. "Modern music is about letting the user define their own experience and that is what this does."

I got a Friend request from Kevin Bath and was amazed when I checked out his myspace
For all you music fans, they are free to download, so make sure you check out the Kevin Bath website at http://www.kevinbath.com/
Thanks for the visit. My name is Kevin Bath and I am a Songwriter/multi instrumentalist. Starting Oct.1, 2006 and ending Sept.23, 2007 I set a world record by releasing a CD a week ... For A YEAR!!!!. Thats 52 CD’s 416 Original songs performed, recorded and released by me. Each Cd has 8 songs. I hope that you will check out my songs and spread the word. They are all available for FREE on my website http://www.kevinbath.com/
The albums consist of many musical styles including rock, country, reggae, dance, folk, unplugged, children's, pop, instrumental and improv. The idea originally was a joke, however, the more Burlington, Ontario's Bath thought about it, the more excited he got about being able to create and share his music. "I find that creativity inspires more creativity, it can be very addicting. It's like a high."
"Every Sunday I would release the weeks album,' explains Bath, "Sunday or Monday I would come up with the songs, creating is the easy part for me, then I start recording bed tracks, mid-week start recording vocals, end of the week for mixing, the hardest part and releasing again for Sunday, it was very tight on time each week to stay on track."Performing and recording all the instruments and vocals (except for some neighborhood kids on the Kidzongs) in his own home recording studio, Bath dedicated a year of his life for the love of the project. Some of his favorite albums are Sponge Bath Square pants, Mid-day sun, Grapes of Bath, Prague, Unplugged, Punk Bath, 2007 and Lady pinstripe.
Over the course of the year, Bath got the word out primarily using internet marketing like myspace, facebook, esnips.com and received great support from Y108 radio in Hamilton and the Edge in Toronto. Bath felt very driven during the whole process, so taking breaks wasn't an option, "there were moments of despair, but there was a strong sense of destiny to complete this project."Fans, friends, family and industry have been so supportive of the project that Bath says "in the end, I had people suggest I keep going beyond the 52 weeks – now that's crazy!"
There are plans in the works to release a compilation Best of Bath CD for the new year. To listen to albums and for more information check out www.kevinbath.com

Well, I was the lucky one yesterday that got the maintanence go over :(
What they added or did I am not sure, it just said something about adding applications (what ever they might be). I sure hope myspace isn’t going the way of Facebook as it is such a hard site to navigate, they make you log into to see anything (I really don’t think it is anyones business when I log in or out or add a message to someone elses page - time and date stamped and I am sure I am not the only one. If you need an alibi, make sure you log into facebook, you can say you were there and can prove it, lol) and most of all, they keep DELETING me, lol. Maybe I don’t add enough applications (what a pain in the butt). My friends keep telling me to get on facebook, but if I could stay on there longer than a couple weeks, I would be amazed. Ok so maybe one day I will try again ;)
I was lucky enough to get up Artist of the Day, although there was not much else I could do. Today I am doing my best to catch up with listening to all the new band requests, add comments and all the other fun stuff I do and I have noticed that some of you are now in maintainence :( Never fail I will get back to you, although it might take a day or two.
Database is coming along great, with over 4500 friends, it takes a while but when all is said and done, I will better be able to promote all. I will be adding a mailing list (for those interested) and by summer time, I should have a newsletter up and running along with some other projects I am working on. So don’t forget to continue to send me those festivals, bars, coffee shops and all other venues you play in, companies that supply your merchandise, your entertainment lawyers, promoters, mangement companies, record labels and all that fun stuff so I can help promote YOU and the people that make it all happen behind the scenes.
I appreciate all the Press Kits that I receive and work hard on getting your music out there, so keep them coming in. If you have an EPK please send me the link, so I can do the same for you. YOUR FUTURE lies in the hands of these promotional materials and I find most bands use SonicBid, so take the time and check them out, it could make a difference in your future :)
Cheers and Inspire :)

My favorite part of the thank you's is the road crew, sound engineers and others that help these bands sound and look good. If not for you all, there would be no show. So from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU! Now for the show ...
First off was Inoke Errati (I Know Karate). The Inoke Errati website http://www.inokeerrati.com/ is the place you can purchase their cd "The Wink and The Gun", watch some videos, read the bio, look at photos, keep up with the Inoke Errati blog and so much more. Inoke Errati consists of Jake, Chris and Bobby who keep you on your toes at all times. The stage show and energy they have is one of the reasons, I am sure, why they have recently signed with Trust Records - http://www.myspace.com/trustrecordsjapan . Inoke Errati is in the top 8 for the CME Battle and will be playing at St. Clair College on April 3, they need your support to make it to the nationals :) Inoke Errati will also be playing at "The Scene at the Room" on May 29 with a few gigs in between. You have to check out the high energy and stage show of Inoke Errati, but in the mean time take a listen to some of their music on the Inoke Errati myspace at http://www.myspace.com/inokeerrati and ladies don't forget the underwear as someone in the band enjoy's it :)
Next was Credible Witness. Credible Witness consists of Walter Senko - Vocals/Piano, Michael Didomenico - Guitar/Back up Vocals, Bobby Jacques - Guitar/BGV's, Jonathan Loiselle - Bass/BGV's, Ryan Brough - Drums and Matt Babechuk - Synthesizer. Credible Witness is currently working on writing and producing songs for their new cd "It's Okay to be Serious". Credible Witness EP "Back to the Window" can be purchased off their myspace. Credible Witness shows the energy of an awesome alternative band. This band definately needs a big stage, to bring out their best stage presence. They rocked and rolled with everyone cheering for more. Although the singer did mention that he had a cold (and drank gallons on water to sing) they played an awesome performance. Like all musicians, the show must go on and that it did. To listen to more of Credible Witness and book them for upcoming events, check out their myspace at http://www.myspace.com/crediblewitness
Finally up was the February 25/08 - Artist of the Day - Corporate Saturday :) Corporate Saturday's website http://corporatesaturday.com/ has a bio, shows, news, media and merchadise although this page is currently being upgraded (so check out for the new site soon). Corporate Saturday consists of Austen Renaud - Vocals, Brendan Friel - Guitar, Chris Caputo - Bass/Keyboard and Rob Raco - Drums. The energy of Corporate Saturday was at it's best as they sang songs from their EP "A Moment of Peace" and of course their new cd "Looking at the Same Stars". They played a couple of amazing acoustic songs in the middle of their set that proves that this band has it all. They rocked, they rolled and they mellowed with the mesmerized crowd. Bravo to Corporate Saturday for their amazing cd release and the party. Corporate Saturday also took the time after the set to sign cd's take pictures (yeap I forgot to bring extra batteries) which pleased all the fans young and old. To find out more about Corporate Saturday, watch some videos, listen to their tunes and book them for an event, check out the Corporate Saturday myspace at http://www.myspace.com/corporatesaturday Now when it comes to underwear and Corporate Saturday's, Austen made it very clear (as fans threw up their wares, lol) that the bashful Chris was the one you should through them at :)
This was a fun event for me as I brought 5 teenagers (yeap I value their opinion) to find out their thoughts. They are our future generation of music buyers so it is all important to me what they consider good music. They all had fun and even met some of their school buddies. When it came to favorite they had all picked Corporate Saturday as their favorite, but said all the bands were great and would love to see them all again (so watch out for the all age events, I will be the one with all the teenagers, lol).
Here are the links for all the people that were involved in this blog :)

Desperado plays southern rock, country and rock music. The Desperado's myspace music is both Romanian and English which adds to the mystic. Desperado's website http://www.desperadocountry.ro/ has a bio, pics and disocgraphy that I found, not being Romanian I found it a little hard to navigate the site, but click on the pictures and words and it takes you where you need to go. The Desperado band consists of Sandy "The Gun" Deac - lead vocal, acoustic guitar; Laci "Indiana Jones" Kovacs - guitar; Vlad "P.G. Suckermann" Spatar - bass, backing vocal; Ovidiu "Zozo McHorny" Horneac - keyboards, backing vocal; Ovidiu "Chico Mendez" Cristian - drums. Desperado has 5 cd's out "Raspundem Ascultatorilor", Desperado "Greatest Shits" and a few more. To find out more about Desperado, watch a couple videos, and listen to the Romanian and English versions of some awesome country tunes, check out the Desperado myspace at
